Restoration of Civil Rights Workshop July 13 in Fredericksburg

The Fredericksburg Chapter of Virginia Organizing is partnering with the local voter registrar’s office to hold a restoration of civil rights workshop for formerly incarcerated individuals (returning citizens). The free meeting will be held on Monday, July 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library Headquarters Branch, 1201 Caroline St., Fredericksburg.

Virginia Department of Elections Official Garry Ellis will also speak at the workshop.

Duane Edwards, a Virginia Organizing Fredericksburg Chapter leader and State Governing Board member, is a returning citizen who had his own rights restored. “I chose to get my rights restored so I could stand up and use my voice to be a part of the solution to the problems we face today,” Edwards said.

“Our workshop will assist returning citizens restore their rights to vote, sit on a jury, hold public office, be a notary, and more,” Edwards said. “There have been many new changes to the restoration of civil rights process and Virginia Organizing hopes to help clarify those changes for people.”
