Local donors provided $142,000 in scholarships to 40 students who will be attending college in the fall of 2015. The students live in the City of Fredericksburg and the Counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford.

All philanthropic funds that provide the annual scholarships are administered by The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region. “The Community Foundation now has 38 scholarship funds and each has its own criteria, said Executive Director Teri McNally. “Our awards committees were very impressed by the credentials of the applicants.”

Generous people establish scholarship funds for widely varied reasons, McNally said. “Some are created to memorialize a departed loved one, like the newly established Craig “Cujo, Jr.” Bennett Scholarship Fund. Others are intended to inspire leaders of the future, such as the Clay and Elsie Williams Rural Conservation Scholarship. Some are available to seniors throughout the region; others are offered only to students in specific localities or schools.”
