Our Community Salutes Fredericksburg will honor 105 local high school graduates who’ve enlisted in the military and will be leaving for boot camp following high school graduation. The 2015 ceremony will be held 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, in Dodd Auditorium at the University of Mary Washington, 1301 College Ave.
“Only 1 percent of Americans serve in our military, and we the 99 percent benefit from the freedom they defend,” said Nancy Kearney, president, Blue Star Mothers of Fredericksburg Virginia, Chapter 4. The group has been hosting Our Community Salutes Fredericksburg since 2012.
“We encourage the community to come to this free event and celebrate these young men and women,” Kearney said. Speakers will include:

Congressman Rob Wittman, R-VA 1st District
Senator Bryce Reeves, R-VA 17th District
Sgt. Maj. Gary Weiser, USMC
Chief Master Sgt. Manuel Pineiro, USAF
Commander Hallock Mohler
Dr. George Nixon – oldest enlisted veteran in the Fredericksburg area
There will be performances by the Enduring Freedom Honor Team Band and Michelle Meyer.
Blue Star Mothers of Fredericksburg members provide ongoing support for active duty service members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
