Weekend of Fun at Lake Anna State Park

Friday, Aug. 14
11 a.m. – 1 p.m . Visit the Goodwin Gold Mine and discover how gold was mined in Virginia in the late 1800’s. Then pan for gold on the shores of Pigeon Run Creek. $2 each or $6 per family.
2 – 3 p.m. CSI: Creek Scene Investigation: Get your feet wet investigating the vast array of life in a stream. Limit 20. Free.
4 – 5 p.m. Cloudy with a Chance FUN: Learn about the envelope of gas that hugs our planet – the atmosphere. Then join an adventure to spot the clouds passing by. Free.
Saturday, Aug. 15
2 – 3 p.m. Snakes Alive: an in depth look into the fascinating lives of some local reptiles. Free.
4 – 5 p.m. A virtual tour of several different nests of local birds of prey. Free.
7 – 8 p.m. Frog Walk around Old Pond Trail, looking and listening for these amazing amphibians. Limit 20. Free.
Sunday, Aug. 16
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Try your hand at gold panning. Learn some of the techniques of professional prospectors and then dip your pan in Old Pond to see what washes up. Limit 15. Free.
2 – 3 p.m. Rocks on the Run: learn about rocks. Free.
4 – 5 p.m. Sketching Nature: Join the park interpreter and discover the art of Nature while nurturing your inner artist. Free.

Big O Boogie at Skydive Orange
August 14 – 17
Orange County Airport, 11339 Bloomsbury Rd., Orange
Compete or watch wingsuit formations, artistic freefly and more.
Saturday night costume party, “Latex, Leather, Fur or Feather”
Admission free for spectators. Registration for participants:
$50 full weekend plus t-shirt, dinner, prizes, LO jumps, etc.
$30 one day, t-shirt, prizes (and dinner if it’s Saturday only)
$15 dinner only

Prince William County Fair 2015
August 14 – 22

Fair events include truck and tractor pull competitoins, demolition derby, carnival rides, Welde’s Big Bear Show, bull riding, No Joe’s Clown Circus,
$10 for adults, $6 for ages 5-13 or 60 and over. Good for admission, midway shows and parking.

Saturday Night Dance Party
Saturday, Aug. 15, 7 – 10 p.m.
Strictly Ballroom Dance Studio, 125 Olde Greenwich Dr., Fredericksburg
This week’s Saturday Night Dance Party feature sa Cha Cha lesson at 7 p.m., followed by an 8 – 10 p.m. dance social.
No partner or experience needed. Light refreshments provided. $12 per person.

The Perseids at Motts Run
Saturday, Aug. 15, 9:30 – 11:30 p.m.
Motts Run Reservoir, 6600 River Rd., Fredericksburg, Va.
Join Astronomer Myron Wasiuta watch for the Perseid meteors. Bring a lawn chair (optional). $6 admission per person.

Stafford Songfest Sunday
Sunday, August 16, 3 – 5 p.m.
The English Channel, a 60’s cover band, will perform on Celebration Stage at John Lee Pratt Memorial Park, 120 River Rd, Fredericksburg.
Admission is $10 per car. Bring a picnic or purchase food from the concessions will be available. Concerts will be held rain or shine.
