Art Attack Fredericksburg is a grassroots event organized by local artists to encourage the exposure, promotion and celebration of Fredericksburg’s vibrant art community. Participating artists take to the streets of the historic downtown with live art demonstrations in a variety of media.

Free Showing of “The Hunting Ground”

The documentary exams sexual assault at American universities and the response by some institutions to blame and silence the victims and shield perpetrators in order to protect a school’s name. “Film is a powerful tool to help ignite conversation, raise awareness, and drive change,” director Kirby Dick and producer Amy Ziering wrote. They hope “The Hunting Ground” will be a “formidable catalyst for social change.” The Fredericksburg screenings of “The Hunting Ground” are sponsored by The Women and Girls Fund of The Community Foundation, Empowerhouse domestic violence shelter, the Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault, Germanna Community College and the University of Mary Washington.

Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Championships
September 19 – 27 in Richmond, Va.
The Road World Championships (Worlds) is cycling’s pinnacle event, held annually in an international city as chosen by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) through a competitive bidding process similar to the Olympic Games. The nine-day event features about 1,000 of the world’s top men and women cyclists from some 75 countries competing in 12 championship races. Beyond the racing, there will be festivals, concerts, expos and other entertainment for fans of all ages. Richmond is the first American city to host the event since 1986. There will be several hospitality areas and fan zones that will have ticketed admission, but the majority of the courses will be open and free for all spectators.

Join archaeologist Mara Kaktins for a one-hour tour examining ways Native and Colonial Americans utilized plants in their daily lives and the role plants play in interpreting archaeological landscapes.
