St. George’s Episcopal Church will welcome their new rector and his family on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015.

The Rev. Joseph H. Hensley, Jr., will preach at the 7:45, 9:00, 11:00 and 5:30 services. The 9:55 a.m. Adult Forum will feature “Get to Know Joe,” an informal presentation from the new rector about his approach to ministry, followed by a question and answer session. A reception after the 11 a.m. service will be held in Sydnor Hall. Everyone is welcome at all events.

Hensley graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) in 2007. While at VTS, he completed a two-year internship with Church of the Epiphany in Washington, D.C., and returned after graduation to serve as Assistant to the Rector.

Before attending VTS, Hensley’s jobs included a short stint as an Outward Bound Instructor, full-time youth minister at Holy Trinity, Greensboro, head of staff at Glory Ridge, an ecumenical Christian camp ministry near Asheville, N.C., as a conflict mediator and trainer at Dispute Settlement Center of Orange County, where he focused on youth, educators and parents.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from UNC Chapel Hill.

Joe, as he likes to be called, is a native of North Carolina. He and his wife Sarah have had four children: Lucy (6th grade, born 2002), Alice (born and deceased 2005), Stella (2nd grade, born 2007), and Owen (2011).

St. George’s Episcopal Church is located at 905 Princess Anne St. in downtown Fredericksburg.
