4 Finalists Selected for 2015 Made in FredVA Competition

Four finalists have been selected for the third-annual Made in FredVA business startup competition, which will be held 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. They are:

Dogwood Lawns, Mike Wood. Dogwood Lawns offers an online marketplace where customers can book and pay for lawn-care services performed by local providers who can be rated through the site.

Repo Rocks, Evelyn White. Patent-pending Repo-Rocks turns plastic waste into lightweight and decorative rocks that can be used for landscaping.

Twila & Co., Johnna Hetrick. Twila & Co. partners with local businesses to create customizable gift boxes filled with items representing the best of Fredericksburg.

Up | FXBG, Jerry Becker. Up | FXBG is a mobile-responsive website that allows users to post details about upcoming community events.

Each finalist will have five minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of three judges, followed by 10 minutes of questions from the judges. They judges are:

-Brian Baker, executive director, Center for Economic Development at the University of Mary Washington
-Rebecca Rubin, founder, president & CEO, Marstel-Day, LLC
-Joe Wilson, CEO, PermaTreat Pest Control

The event is patterned after the popular “Shark Tank” television show. The winner will receive $10,000 toward business startup expenses. There will also be a $500 people’s choice award.

The Next Generation of Business Leaders, a program of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, organizes Made in FredVA. The NextGen board selected three finalists from a pool of nine applicants. One finalist, Twila and Co., was chosen by the general public in a video voting contest.

The Made in FredVA finale and reception will be held at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill, 1707 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg. Tickets are $10 for Next Generation of Business Leaders members, $15 for non members.
