Longtime supporters Bruce and Sandy Davis were honored by the Germanna Community College (GCC) Educational Foundation with the naming of the Dickinson Building atrium for the couple. The Dickinson Building is on the Fredericksburg Area Campus in Spotsylvania.

Bruce Davis served as chief liaison to the president at Germanna. The former co-owner of Freeman Beverage recently bought 18 Beltone Hearing Centers in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland.

Since coming to the Fredericksburg area in 1989, Davis and his wife have invested in the community through GCC, the Germanna Historical Foundation and the Lions Club. “Germanna helps transform so many lives of young people who don’t always have the advantages some of us have,” Davis said. “That’s why we’ve invested in the college and these other things as well. It’s part of our heart. The heart pumps blood out into the body, and the body is the community.”

Davis said community colleges are making a difference today in a way never seen before. “It used to be that if you graduated from high school you did OK, but if you got a four-year degree, you could do a lot better,” he said. “Now, companies don’t always want someone with a four-year degree. They often want someone with an associate’s degree they can train and immediately get into their workforce.”
