Centennial Broadcasting’s 2nd Annual Care-athon raised $90,301 for Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C.

The amount contributed by B101.5 listeners and sponsors during the November 5 – 7, 2015, event was a 154 percent increase over the previous year’s $35,559 total.

“We are honored to help such an important institution serving so many families in our listening area,” said Mark Bass, Fredericksburg market manager for Centennial Broadcasting. “The expression of support by our audience this year far exceeded expectations, and we look forward to making it bigger and better each year.”

“These dollars will help ensure that every child who comes through the doors of Children’s National receives the same level of world class care, regardless of their family’s ability to pay,” said Megan Campuzano, associate director of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, to which Children’s National is associated.

B101.5 dedicated more than 34 hours of airtime to the Care-athon. Local businesses provided matching donations and other valuable resources during the event, Bass said. Those businesses included Total Comfort Heating and Air, America’s Home Place, Sonic Drive-In of Fredericksburg, Legends Grill, 610 Pawn and Jewelry, and Spotsylvania Towne Centre.

Centennial Broadcasting, II, LLC, headquartered in Clemmons, N.C., owns and operates five radio stations throughout Virginia, including B101.5 and NewsTalk 1230 WFVA, in Fredericksburg. The B101.5 signal reaches listeners north-south from DC to Richmond and east-west from Culpeper to Southern Maryland.

Children’s National Health System is the premier provider of pediatric care in the region, and the only freestanding children’s hospital between Philadelphia and Atlanta. Locally, Children’s National doctors staff the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Va.
