It’s hard to believe the holidays are upon us. While some are still hosting autumn themed festivals, others are kicking off the Christmas season this weekend.

Take a look at this selection of special events in the Central Virginia region November 13 – 15, 2015. Click the hyperlinks for additional details.

Avenue Q
Thursday, Nov. 12, Friday, Nov. 13, and Saturday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 14, and Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.
Klein Theatre, duPont Hall, University of Mary Washington, 1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg, Va.
The musical comedy known as the “Sesame Street for grown-ups” tells the story of Princeton, a hope-filled college graduate who moves to New York to find his purpose in life.
Tickets are $24; $20 for students, senior citizens, military and alumni.

Startup Weekend Fredericksburg – Veterans Edition
Friday – Sunday, Nov. 13 – 15
Germanna Community College Workforce and Technology Center, 10000 Germanna Point Dr., Fredericksburg
Startup Weekend is an event where local business minds come together to begin and maintain a business within 54 hours. It is part of the Startup Weekend global network and is open to all. This year’s event is focused on serving veterans and encouraging veterans to take part in the event.
Registration: $99

Virginia Christmas Market
Friday, Nov. 13, and Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 15, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Exhibition Center at Meadow Event Park, 13111 Dawn Blvd., Doswell, Va.
Christmas-themed decorations and accessories, and visits with Santa throughout the day.
Adults $7, Children under 10, free. Weekend pass $12. Groups (20 or more) $5.50 a person.

Downtown Fredericksburg Holiday Open House
Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 15, 2 – 6 p.m.
Downtown Fredericksburg shops are decorated and hosting specials throughout the weekend. Santa and Mrs. Claus, carolers and other special guests will be strolling the streets.
Free.

Friday, November 13
Loisann’s Hope House Trees of Hope Luncheon and Fashion Show
Friday, Nov. 13, 11:30 a.m.
University of Mary Washington’s Jepson Alumnai Center, 1119 Hanover St., Fredericksburg, Va.
$50 per person. $375 for a table of eight.

Uptown Arts 2nd Friday
Friday, Nov. 13, 6 – 9 p.m.
OddBox Studios and fredFOTOarts, 526-1 Wolfe St. Fredericksburg, Va.
Watch video highlights of the recent Meow WOOF Fest, view an exhibition by three award-winning animal author/photographers, and witness fun pet portrait photo sessions.
Free admission.

Mary Beth Bennett Organ Concert
Friday, Nov. 13, 8 p.m.
Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Ave., Fredericksburg, Va.
Organist and composer Dr. Mary Beth Bennett performs Bach, Langlais, Widor, Tunder and her own variations on “Outbursts of Spring Triumphant.”
Reception following.
Free. Donations welcome.

Saturday, November 14
Thornburg Middle School’s Winter Wonderland
Saturday, Nov. 14, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Thornburg Middle School, 6929 N Roxbury Mill Rd, Spotsylvania
Bounce houses, pony rides, make and take crafts, pictures with Santa, etc.
Adults, free. Kid’s $5, which includes access to all activities.

2nd Annual Paws4Vets “Got Your Back Dog” Walk
Saturday, Nov. 14, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
58 Jesse Curtis Lane, Fredericksburg, Va.
This year’s theme is “Rock-n the 50’s” and there will be a costume contest going along with the theme for best dressed dog. Cruisin for Heroes and Rolling Thunder will also be present, showing off custom cars and motorcycles, alongside clowns, venders, silent auctions, raffles and more.
Free admission. $10 donation to participate in the walk.

The National Capitol Squadron Open Hangar Day
Saturday, Nov. 14, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Culpeper Regional Airport, 12499 Beverly Ford Rd., Brandy Station, Va.
Get up close and personal with WWII – era aircraft. Pilots, ground crew, and historians of the squadron will be on hand to answer questions and talk with visitors.
Free admission.

Richmond Cider Celebration
Saturday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Historic 17th Street Farmers’ Market, 100 N. 17th Street, Richmond, Va.
Celebrate the beginning of Cider Week Virginia. Tastings, apple and cider food dishes, live music, educational workshops and other themed fun.
Each ticket includes: 10 cider tastings.
Tickets: $20 for adults 21+, free for everyone under 21.

Grapes and Grains Trail Holiday Spirits Festival
Saturday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
A. Smith Bowman Distillery, 1 Bowman Dr., Fredericksburg
Santa Claus will come to A. Smith Bowman, along with live music, holiday shopping at the distillery’s gift shop, and tours of the facility.
$20 at the door

Third Annual Women Build Pub Crawl
1 – 2:30 p.m. Capital Ale House
2:40 – 3:40 p.m. Bistro Bethem
3:45 – 5 p.m. Castiglia’s Italian Restaurant
5 – 6 p.m. Jay’s Downtown Sports Lounge
Proceeds support Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity.
Tickets are $25 and include a T-shirt and entry to raffles at each location.

Annual Veteran’s Day Parade
Saturday, Nov. 14, 2 p.m.
Main Street, Gordonsville, Va.
Free.

Concert in Lights Kick-off Festival
4 – 9 p.m. at Spotsylvania Towne Centre, 137 Spotsylvania Mall Dr., Fredericksburg, Va.
Free festivities on the green include 93.3 WFLS’s Iceless Ice Skating Rink (2 – 8 p.m.), face painting, balloon animals, kettle korn, hot chocolate and live music. The B101.5 Laser Show is at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m.

Tree-A-Palooza
Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 – 11 p.m.
University of Mary Washington’s Jepson Alumni Center, 1119 Hanover St., Fredericksburg
Ailent and live auctions of decorated Christmas trees, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a beer and wine tasting, and live music.
Proceeds benefit Hope House.
Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple.

Downhome Ball
Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 – 9 p.m.
Roxbury Mill Farm and Garden Center, 601 Lafayette Blvd, Fredericksburg, Va.
Cash bar, free food, live music, activities for kids.
Benefits Downtown Greens.
$20 in advance. $25 at the door.

Fredericksburg Community Concert Band Fall Concert
Saturday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m.
Massaponax High School, 8201 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Fredericksburg
$5 for adults, $2 for children in grades K – 12, free for children under kindergarten age.

Belmont 40th Anniversary Celebration

Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont celebrates its 40th anniversary with 1975 admission rates.
