Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary is hoping for some extra support during the holiday season.

The 450-acre, all-species, no-kill animal sanctuary in Orange, Va., recently rescued 70 wild cats from “six horrendous situations in four different counties,” reported Founder and Executive Director Kerry Hilliard.

These are in addition to the two dozen cats rescued from Peaceable Farm in October.

“We specialize in ferals and other kitties with issues that make them unwanted, so we already have quite a few,” Hilliard said. “Sadly this kind of thing goes on pretty frequently with cats, especially outdoor and feral cats,” Hilliard said. “It just seems nobody cares about them. And that’s really why we do — we pick up where so many other rescues don’t have the ability to go.”

The new cats will merge with the existing cats once they are healthy, spayed/neutered, and vaccinated.

The shelter is funded by donations. Rikki’s Refuge is hoping to raise about $7,500 to fund the care of the cats.

You can donate online at http://rikkisrefuge.org/ or visit Re-Tail, their thrift and resale store at 3503 Lafayette Blvd. in Fredericksburg.
