Traffic hot spots in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline and King George for December 6 – 12, 2015.

Fredericksburg
Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

City of Fredericksburg Alert: Watch for milling and paving North-bound lanes Rt. 1 from Learning Lane to Fall Hill Ave., 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Dec. 7 – 11, weather permitting. Use caution and drive slowly through the area.

Spotsylvania
Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
· Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Hwy) – shoulder work and brush cutting
· Route 2 (Fredericksburg Turnpike) – shoulder work
· Route 17 (Mills Drive) – shoulder work
· Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – brush cutting
· Route 702 (Curtis Lane) – ditching
· Route 657 (Edenton Road) – ditching
· Route 617 (Hams Ford Road) – tree trimming
· Shade Tree Subdivision – tree trimming

Stafford County
Route 17
(Update) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Intersection paving will be underway at several Route 17 intersections throughout the week in connection with the Route 17 widening project. Paving will occur at intersections between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway. Route 17 traffic can proceed in both directions during the work zone, but left turns from Route 17 and side streets will be temporarily prohibited while an intersection is being paved.

Route 607 (River Road)
(New) Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane on River Road under the Falmouth Bridge. Columbia Gas crews will be working under the bridge. Expect brief delays.

Centreport Parkway
(New) Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Crews will be paving on Cemtreport Parkway at Ramoth Church Road. This is in connection with the Stafford County locally administered Centreport Parkway Project. Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone.

Blue and Gray Parkway
(New) Thursday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; Crews will be repairing the concrete barrier on the Blue and Gray Parkway. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
· Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – shoulder work
· Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) – brush cutting
· Route 624 (Layhill Road) – shoulder work
· Route 627 (Enon Road) – brush cutting
· Route 624 (Leeland Road) – shoulder work
· Route 674 (Glebe Road) – machining road
· Route 727 (Monroe Farm Road) – machining road

Under Construction: Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

King George
Route 218 (Windsor Drive)
(New) Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 218 between Route 205 and Route 301. Crews will be inspecting the bridge over Machodoc Creek.

Route 603 (Fletchers Chapel Road)
(New) Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 603 between Route 3 and Route 602. Crews will be inspecting the bridge over the CSX railroad.

Caroline County
Route 30
(New) Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be paving and line striping on eastbound and westbound Route 30 from the east end of the North Anna Bridge to just west of Route 652 (Signboard Road). Motorists should expect lane closures and delays in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
· Route 2 (Fredericksburg Turnpike) – shoulder work and tree trimming
· Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) – tree trimming
· Route 301 (A.P. Hill Blvd.) – tree trimming
· Route 207 (Roger Clark Boulevard) – shoulder work
· Route 721 (Sparta Road) – shoulder work

Under Construction: Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is closed to through traffic. Crews are replacing a bridge approximately 1.1 miles from Route 647. Motorists should follow posted detour signs.

Project Finished: Route 606 (Stonewall Jackson Road) in Caroline County is now open to through traffic.
Construction crews finished work December 4 to rehabilitate the bridge superstructure at the Poni River. The bridge was closed to traffic on Feb. 27, 2015, after a routine annual inspection found severe deterioration in the bridge beams. Construction to rehabilitate the bridge was scheduled for 2016, but the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advanced the design and advertisement of the project by six months to re-open the road.
