Ken Cuccinelli will present the keynote address at the Religious Freedom Day Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 11, in Fredericksburg. The Knights of Columbus have held the celebration every year since 1974. The Religious Freedom Day Celebration is held to honor President Thomas Jefferson and his drafting of The Act for Establishing Religious Freedom, commonly known as the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, which the Virginia General Assembly passed on January 16, 1786. It was one of the sources Congress used when drafting the Bill of Rights in 1789.

“All religious groups are invited to march in the parade, and may carry a banner identifying their affiliation and showing their support for religious freedom,” said Karen Klugh, spokesperson for the Knights of Columbus. “After a short parade through downtown Fredericksburg, a ceremony at the monument will feature a keynote address by Ken Cuccinelli on the importance of religious freedom and an official proclamation from Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw commemorating the bill. Virginia State Delegate Bobby Orrock will serve as the master of ceremonies.”
