The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Culpeper Field Office arrested University of Mary Washington (UWM) Police Sergeant William R. Somers on December 16, 2015.
Somers, 35, of Bowling Green, Va., was charged with two felony counts of forcible sodomy, according to Corinne Geller, Virginia State Police public relations director. “The charges stem from an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred Saturday [December 12] in the City of Fredericksburg,” she said.
The Free Lance-Star reports the assault occurred on campus, but the victim is not a student. We have contacted UMW for confirmation.
Somers is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
We will update this story as information becomes available.
