Fredericksburg Region Traffic Alerts January 31 – February 6

Traffic hot spots in the Fredericksburg region — Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline and King George — January 31 – February 6, 2016.

City of Fredericksburg
Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard due to trucks entering and exiting the Fall Hill Avenue Widening Project site. Flaggers will direct motorist through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. -3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on eastbound Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the canal. Crews are replacing storm water pipes and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Spotsylvania County
Under Construction: Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is underway to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County. The project will be completed by June 2016.

Stafford County
Traffic Signal Structure Inspections
(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be inspecting traffic signal structures at various locations this week. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays in the work zone. Inspections will take place at the following intersections:
– I-95 Northbound and Southbound Ramps – at Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
– Centreport Parkway – at the ramps to northbound and southbound I—95
– Staffordboro Blvd. – at Greenspring Drive, Northampton Blvd. and the Staffordboro Park and Ride Lot.
– Greenspring Drive – at Salisbury Drive
– Route 1 – at Towne Place Suites, Eskimo Hill Road and Coal Landing Road
– Route 17 – at Village Parkway and Lendall Lane
– Route 630 (Courthouse Road) – at the ramps to I-95 northbound and southbound and Red Oak Drive

Under Construction: Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Under Construction: Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Caroline County
Bridge Inspections
(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be conducting routine bridge safety inspections at the following locations. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Monday
Route 638 – bridge over the South River located between Route 664 and Route 605

Tuesday
Route 647 – bridge over the Mattaponi River located between Route 627 and Route 601

Wednesday
Route 722 – bridge over the Mattaponi River located between Route 676 and Route 640

Thursday
Route 743 – bridge over the South River located between Route 633 and the dead end

Under Construction: Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is open to traffic. The bridge replacement project is near completion. The final paving is expected to take place in the spring.

Westmoreland County
Under Construction: Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Route 631 (Longfield Road). The project is expected to be complete by July 1, 2016.
