Fredericksburg’s long popular downtown store for all things cat is closing. The Cats Closet owner Pat Preston is retiring. She opened the store in 1989.

“This post is a shout out to all of our wonderful customers to inform you it’s retirement time!” Preston wrote on Facebook.

“It’s been a wonderful 26+ years of business and I feel that the time is right to move on to the next phase of my life. I have enjoyed The Cats Closet and appreciate your business over the years! Along with all the unique cat themed items we have had, we have also provided cat references, tips and genuine help to feline questions from our customers. We at The Cats Closet send everyone best wishes!”

Preston has begun a retirement sale in the store and on the store’s website.

I know many of us will miss seeing Oreo, Pepper, Scarlet and Beau in the store window.
