Registration and Absentee Ballot Information for the November Election

Every year is an election year in Virginia. In 2015, state and local elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov 3. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Check Your Registration
If you’re not already registered to vote, the last day to register for this election is October 13. You can check your registration status and update your status at the Virginia Voter Registration webpage.

Voters may also complete registration applications in-person at a local election official office, Department of Motor Vehicles Customer Service Centers, and other Virginia government agencies. Learn more at Virginia’s How To Register webpage.

Absentee Ballot
If you’re unable to make it to the polls on election day or will be out of town, you may cast an absentee ballot. Request and cast an absentee ballot by mail or in person at your local registrar’s office.

-The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is October 27.
-The last day to vote absentee in person is October 31.

Photo ID Required
Virginia requires voters to present photo identification before voting. Any valid government issued ID with your photo is acceptable, including a driver’s license, DMV ID card, passport, or military ID. Employer issued ID’s are acceptable if they include your photo. A complete list of acceptable photo ID’s is available at the Department of Elections web site: http://elections.virginia.gov/registration/photo-ids-required-to-vote/

If you don’t have a photo ID, you may obtain a voter photo ID from your local registrar’s office. Your old voter registration card that does not include a photo will no longer be accepted.
