University of Mary Washington (UMW) students and staff have a new dining option on campus. Sodexo, the company that provides dining services to the university, has introduced a food truck to campus. Eatz on the Street parks along Campus Walk, the route most students take to and from class.

“The truck concept was created in response to menu samplings conducted last spring by Sodexo and a student “Food Truck Wish List” survey distributed to student dining guests,” said Rose Benedict, unit marketing coordinator for UMW Dining Services. Burgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs and french fries topped the list, along with barbecue sandwiches.

Eatz on the Street features signature burgers such as the Distinguished Gentleman with fresh garlic and blue cheese and the Tropical Pig topped with smoked BBQ pork, provolone, grilled pineapple and sriracha sauce.

“The concept is flexible and enables us to change the menu in response to student dining trends,” Benedict said.

The food truck is included in the Campus Dining Plan. Students may use their dining dollars aka “Flex Dollars” for purchases. The food truck also accepts Eagle One (the University’s on and off campus declining balance account), credit cards, and cash.

Eatz on the Street is open Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It also ventures off campus to various community events.

Sodexo operates food trucks on numerous university campuses throughout the country. In our region they are located at Liberty University, Howard University, and the College of William and Mary.
