The fund was established in 2010 to support preservation and providing opportunities for children to have healthy outdoor activities.
The grant recipients are:
$10,000 to Capital Caring Hospice for Caring Circles In-School Grief Groups
This grant will support Capital Caring to provide free grief program for students who are grieving the loss of a loved one in area elementary, middle and high schools.
$7,500 to Catholic Charities for the Mark 10 Project
This grant will subsidize child and family therapy for low income families, whose services are not covered by insurance.
$4,000 to Central Rappahannock Heritage Center, Inc., for Strategic Outreach and Marketing Plan and Materials
This grant will support professional marketing and graphics design to promote the Center’s mission to a wider audience.
$7,500 to Fredericksburg Counseling Services, Inc., for Transition and Healthy Coping
This grant will support the Transition and Healthy Coping program to be provided to 6th and 8th graders in Spotsylvania. The program addresses suicide and depression, as well as bullying, self-harm, helping a friend, and recognizing when students may be getting into a problem themselves.
$5,500 to Friends of the Rappahannock for Kids Learning in Parks
This grant will support the Kids Learning in Parks project to promote recreation opportunities for area youth by providing meaningful outdoor educational experiences for over 800 students in Planning District 16. These programs will take place at local parks and recreation areas in the region and will occur during and after school hours.
$5,000 to the King George Family YMCA for the YMCA 2nd Grade Learn to Swim Program
This grant will support the King George Family YMCA offering all King George County public school second graders lessons in swimming skills and water safety that will keep them safe and build physical and social skills.
$5,000 to Mental Health America of Fredericksburg for Suicide Prevention Education
This grant will support expansion of the Suicide Prevention Education program in order to educate more regional youth to recognize signs and symptoms of depression in themselves and others, and provide guidance in seeking help using the evidence-based “More Than Sad” curriculum.
$10,000 to Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters for one-to-one Mentoring
This grant will be used to recruit, screen, interview, and train volunteers and provide ongoing support for children and volunteers in Caroline County and Stafford County.
$5,214 to Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center for Trauma Focused Mental Health Therapy
This grant will support evidence-based Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy to reduce the impacts of trauma and the risk of future abuse.
$4,972.20 to Sunshine Ballpark Foundation for Discover Sunshine Ballpark
This grant supports Discover Sunshine Ballpark, which is designed to introduce children (8-12) to the world of Ocean Exploration through hands-on activities focusing on the fields of science and technology.
$3,500 to The George Washington Foundation for Archaeological Artifact Conservation at George Washington’s Boyhood Home at Ferry Farm
This grant supports the conservation of 18th-century artifacts excavated at Ferry Farm.
$6,250 to the University of Mary Washington Foundation for the Charles Robinson Architectural Drawings Preservation Project
This grant will fund the cataloging of the historical blueprints and drawings of architect Charles M. Robinson in order to increase useful access to the collection.
$10,000 to Washington Heritage Museums for Exterior Painting of Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop
This grant will cover the costs of scraping, repaid and repainting of the exterior of the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop.
$4,876.88 to St. Georges Episcopal Church
This grant will fund the repairs and upgrade of the outside of the “Chi Rho” Tiffany Stained Glass Window.
$5,000 to Fredericksburg Festival of the Arts
This grant will allow Fredericksburg Festival for the Performing Arts with the Virginia Opera educational department to bring 16 performances of Little Red Riding Hood to local area elementary schools in 2016.
$1,400 to Meadowview Biological Research Station
This grant will be used to purchase a compound microscope to teach youth about plant identification on the Central VA Preserve Duff McDuff Green Jr. Birding and Wildlife Trail.
$3,500 to the Riverside Foundation for the Performing Arts
This grant supports a two week Summer Musical Theater Camp for low income and at risk children.
$1,500 to The Rappahannock Wildlife Refuge
This grant will underwrite the Port Royal Kids Fishing Day. This free event for area youngsters provides an opportunity to learn about the Rappahannock River and how to fish.
$2,400 to the Ladies Memorial Association of Fredericksburg, Virginia
This grant will be used to recognize five Confederate generals buried in the Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery with a pictorial plaque and a short description of their Confederate service and their post war contributions to Fredericksburg.
$3,500 to Rappahannock CASA, Inc.
This grant will provide for Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer and staff training.
$1,500 to Sensory + Theater=Endless Possibilities, Inc.
This grant supports STEP VA Special Needs Dance Class Series for preschoolers and school-aged children.
$5,000 to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
This grant supports the restoration and preservation of St. Paul’s Church historic building, and erosion control of the historic cemetery.
$1,500 to Riverbend High School
This grant will purchase sporting equipment for students to use during Bear Block Sports Activities.
$2,050 to Rappahannock Area Kids on the Block
This grant supports the RAKOB Youth Emergency Preparedness Program and Curriculum.
$5,000 to Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont
This grant supports the restoration of the Belmont Barnyard Fencing and Livestock Shelter.
$1,000 to the United Daughters of the Confederacy
This grant provides general operating support.
The Community Foundation manages and distributes charitable giving in the Rappahannock River region.
