Rather than endorse a particular candidate, we at Fredericksburg Today online news endorse your right and your responsibility to vote. Please take time on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, to vote your choice.

What is Super Tuesday?
Super Tuesday is the biggest presidential primary election day, with 13 states and one territory participating. They are: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Wyoming and American Samoa.

Virginia is a Super Tuesday State
Virginia will award 95 Democrat delegates and 46 Republican delegates based in the Super Tuesday 2016 presidential primary vote.

Virginia has an “open” primary, which means you don’t have to be registered with a particular political party to vote in that party’s primary.

However, Virginia law allows you to vote in only one political party primary election when multiple political party primary elections are held on the same day — as on March 1, 2016.

Each primary — Democrat and Republican — has a separate ballot listing different candidates. When you arrive at your polling location, you will need to indicate which ballot you want.

Your Voter Status
You can check your registration status at the Virginia Voter Registration webpage.

Polling Places
Polls in Virginia are open 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Super Tuesday.

Find out where you vote by inputting your address into the Virginia Polling Places webpage.

Photo ID Required
Virginia requires voters to present photo identification before voting. Any valid government issued ID with your photo is acceptable, including a driver’s license, DMV ID card, passport, or military ID. Employer issued ID’s are acceptable if they include your photo. A complete list of acceptable photo ID’s is available at the Department of Elections web site: http://elections.virginia.gov/registration/photo-ids-required-to-vote/

If you don’t have a photo ID, you may obtain a voter photo ID from your local registrar’s office. Your old voter registration card that does not include a photo will no longer be accepted.
