Fredericksburg-Este Association Presents Medieval Italy Lecture

The Fredericksburg-Este Association will present a lecture by Rusty Neal, Ph.D., on the history of Church and State in Medieval Italy, and how it shaped the political landscape of Italy and Western Europe.

Dr. Neal is a former professor at Morrison University, whose specialty is Medieval and 19th century history.

The cultural event is on Friday, March 18, 2016, at in Faulkner Hall at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 905 Princess Anne St, in downtown Fredericksburg. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with light refreshments and conversation, followed by the lecture at 7 p.m.

“Members will be on hand to answer questions about our organization,” said Rene Rodriguez, a board member.

Este is located about 60 miles west of Venice, Italy.

In September 2015, a Fredericksburg delegation including Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw participated in the official signing of the Fredericksburg-Este Sister City Proclamation in Este.

“Possible economic ties between the two cities are being explored, including tourism, educational partnerships, and food and wine products,” Rodriguez said.

Two other cultural exchange visits have occurred. The first group from Fredericksburg toured Este in November 2014, and the first group from Este visited Fredericksburg in June 2015.

“A return visit to in Fredericksburg to formalize the proclamation is expected Spring 2016,” Rodriguez said

Fredericksburg–Este Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
