David Corderman and J. R. Flatter came to the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce 2016 State of the Chamber event March 17 prepared to make the signature presentation. Instead, they were surprised by a video highlighting their service, as they were announced as the recipients of the Joseph L. Argenzio Award.
The award has been presented annually since 2010 to honor the volunteer who “goes above and beyond the call of duty in service to the chamber or its affiliates in the previous year.”
Corderman is a senior partner of Academy Leadership Associates, LLC (ALA), a former instructor of graduate studies in human behavior and leadership at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and an adjunct faculty member of the University of Virginia.
Flatter is President & CEO of Flatter & Associates, which he co-founded with his wife Alicia Flores-Flatter in January 2002, immediately upon his retirement from the Marine Corps. He is 2016 vice chair of the chamber’s board of directors.
Both men serve as Leadership Fredericksburg mentors.
“These two humble and incredibly generous community stewards offer us their time and talent, assisting us with the preparedness of Leadership Fredericksburg sessions and coaching the class fellows,” said Chamber President and CEO Susan Spears. “It’s obvious they care about the people who lead the businesses that make up the chamber.”
The Argenzio Award is named for the late Joe Argenzio. The youngest infantryman to land on Normandy during D-Day developed a special relationship with the chamber toward the end of his life. The award honors an outstanding volunteer who went above and beyond the call of duty in service to the chamber.
