Rain is expected to begin after 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, with the day’s high near 45.
Rain and snow are likely from 2 – 8 a.m. Sunday, March 20. The overnight low is expected to be around 35.
Snow is expected between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, then a chance of rain after 2 p.m. The high is expected to be near 44.
Sunday night there’s a 40 percent chance of rain showers before 2 a.m, then a slight chance of snow showers. A low around 30 means possible icy travel conditions.
Monday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 50.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be monitoring weather conditions and have crews out to treat roads as needed.
“Most areas will not see heavy accumulation, but moisture and freezing temps could cause icy patches,” VDOT said.
“Anti-icing materials will be applied where effective. These operations will not take place on roadways where rain may occur before snowfall. Rain washes away the treatment, making it ineffective.”
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time to reach destinations, lower speed and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
