RCASA Hosting Artesian Mask Gallery, Masquerade Ball

by | Mar 26, 2016 | Events

Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault (RCASA) is hosting two events to mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.

Un-Mask Sexual Violence Artesian Mask Gallery
RCASA , ArtMart and Kybecca have partnered to display masks created by local artists.

“We live in a society in which sexual violence is normalized or excused,” RCASA said. “In this way, the act of rape can masquerade as socially acceptable behavior. Rape is NOT Funny. Rape is NOT justifiable. Rape is NOT the victim’s fault. Rape is NOT only a woman’s issue. Rape does NOT always leave visable marks. Rape is NOT uncommon.”

The Un-Mask Sexual Violence Artesian Mask Gallery kickoff event is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at Kybecca, 402 William St., in downtown Fredericksburg. The event will feature a signature cocktail and a professional photographer “photo booth” for supporters to model the masks and promote the event on social media.

Masquerade Ball
RCASA will host their 30th anniversary Un-Mask Masquerade Ball from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. The annual fund raising event will feature music by the Fredericksburg Big Band. Formal attire is requested. Masks — including those from the Artesian Mask Gallery — will be provided.

The ball will be held at the Bowman Center, 1 Bowman Dr., Fredericksburg.

Tickets are $50 a person, $80 a couple, and may be purchased online or by calling 540-371-6771. You may also purchase $25 tickets to donate to clients and volunteers who cannot afford them.

RCASA provides counseling, education, and training to sexual violence and abuse survivors and their families.
