VDOT hot spots March 27 – April 2, 2016, in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and Westmoreland.

City of Fredericksburg
Mary Washington Boulevard
Tuesday, noon – 3:30 p.m., Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard due to trucks entering and exiting the Fall Hill Avenue widening project site. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Tuesday, noon – 3:30 p.m., Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on eastbound Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal. Crews are replacing storm water pipes and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 17
(Update) Tuesday, noon – 3 p.m. and Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Crews will continue paving the crossovers on Route 17 between Stafford Lakes Parkway and Commerce Parkway. Traffic on Route 17 will be shifted slightly in the work zone. Two travel lanes will be open in both directions.

Tuesday − Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be installing underground traffic signal equipment. Two travel lanes will be open in both directions, but lanes may be shifted slightly.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
(Update) Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed on eastbound Route 610 at Onville Road. Crews will be placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Under Construction:
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 at Mudd Tavern Road
(New) Tuesday, noon – 4 p.m. and Wednesday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. One lane will be closed on Route 1 northbound at Route 632 (Roxbury Mill Road) to allow crews to install sidewalk ramps at the intersection. This work is in connection with the Route 1 and Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road intersection improvement project.

Under Construction: Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is underway to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County. The project will be completed by June 2016.

Caroline County
Route 17
(Update) Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Crews will be repairing the pavement on Route 17 southbound just south of Port Royal in preparation for upcoming paving work. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Route 656 (Colemans Mill Road)
(Update) At 7 a.m. on Monday, CSX will close Route 656 (Colemans Mill Road) at the railroad crossing to continue track work at this location. Coleman’s Mill Road will remain closed until Tuesday evening. Signs will be posted to guide motorists along the recommended detour route.

Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)
(New) On Friday, April 1, Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) will be closed at the bridge over the Mattaponi River while crews work to rehabilitate the existing structure. Motorists will be detoured around the work zone while construction is underway. Signs will be posted along the recommended detour. Estimated completion is mid-September 2015.

Under Construction: Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is open to traffic. Final paving will occur in spring 2016.

Westmoreland County
Route 205 at Route 631 (Longfield Road)
(Update) Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Crews will continue work to install a drainage pipe across Route 205 at the intersection of Route 631 (Longfield Road) located near Colonial Beach. Motorists should expect delays on Route 205 and Longfield Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is in connection with the Route 205 and Longfield Road intersection reconstruction project.

Under Construction: Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Longfield Road. Estimated completion is July 1, 2016.
