Fredericksburg Region Traffic Alerts April 17 – 23

Virginia Department of Transportation hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and Westmoreland for April 17 – 23, 2016.

Traffic Signal Inspections
(New) Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Traffic signal crews will be inspecting traffic signals at the following intersections in Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. A single lane closure will be in place in the mobile work zone:

Stafford
Route 1 at Towne Place Suites
Route 1 at Route 631 (Bells Hill Road)
Route 17 South at Village Parkway
Route 17 at Solomon Drive
Route 684 (Mine Road) at Route 679 (at Walmart) and Route 1482 (Northhampton Blvd.)
Route 630 at Route 1336 (Red Oak Drive)

Spotsylvania
Route 1 at Hood Drive

City of Fredericksburg
Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard due to trucks entering and exiting the Fall Hill Avenue widening project site. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on eastbound Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal. Crews are replacing storm water pipes and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Stafford County
Route 17
(New) Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be paving the regular travel lanes and crossovers on Route 17 northbound and southbound between McLane Drive and International Drive. Motorists should expect lane closures and slight traffic shifts in the work zone. Various crossovers in the work zone may be periodically closed to traffic. In addition, crews will be installing traffic signal components in this area.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed on eastbound Route 610 at Onville Road. Crews are placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:

Route 3 (Kings Highway) – shoulder work
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Hwy) – shoulder work
Route 218 (White Oak Road) – brush cutting
Route 626 (Morton Road) – shoulder work
Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) – brush cutting
Hickory Ridge Subdivision – ditching
Crow’s Nest – road construction

Spotsylvania
Route 208
(Update) Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be trenching along the shoulder on Route 208 between the north end of the bridge over Lake Anna and Route 601 (Lawyers Road). Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Route 17 Northbound
(New) Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be trenching along the shoulder on Route 17 northbound between the Caroline County line and Route 2/17 at Post Oak. One lane will be closed in the work zone. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Sheraton Hills
(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will be patching at various locations in Sheraton Hills. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Motorists will direct traffic in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:

Route 3 (Plank Road) – repairing washout
Route 613 (Brock Road) – patching
Route 643 (Williams Lane) – machine dirt road
Route 643 (Haleys Mill) – machine dirt road
Route 719 (Days Bridge Rd) – patching
Route 696 (Sullivan Rd) – machine dirt road
Route 602 (Massey Rd) – patching
Route 738 (Partlow Rd) – tree trimming
Route 669 (Butler Rd) – tree trimming
Route 719 (Belmont Rd) – tree trimming
Route 721 (Grand Brooks) – tree trimming
Route 1492 (Inglewood Drive) – ditching

Caroline
Route 17
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Crews will be paving on Route 17 southbound just south of Port Royal. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Bridge Cleaning – Various Locations
(New) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect a single lane closure at various bridges located on the following routes throughout Caroline County. Crews will be performing bridge cleaning:
Route 2
Route 17
Route 207
Route 301
Various Secondary Routes (Route numbered above 600)

Routine Maintenance Activities
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:

Route 301 (A.P. Hill Blvd) – pipe cleaning, shoulder work, litter pickup
Route 624 (Tignor Rd) – pipe cleaning

Under Construction
Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is underway to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County. The project will be completed by June 2016.

Caroline County
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) is closed at the bridge over the Mattaponi River for a bridge rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted recommended detour route. Estimated completion is mid-September 2016.

Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is open to traffic. Final paving will occur in spring 2016.

Westmoreland County
Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Longfield Road. Estimated completion is July 1, 2016.
