VDOT Public Hearing on Rt. 17, Rt. 609 Intersection Improvements

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, about proposed improvements to the intersection of Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road/Jim Morris Road) in Spotsylvania County.

The design public hearing will be held at Lee Hill Elementary School, 3600 Lee Hill School Dr., Fredericksburg, 22408.

Stop by to review displays and plans, and to discuss questions with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff. No formal presentation will be given.

Proposed changes at the intersection include modifying the existing traffic signal from a flashing signal to full color operation; construction of a left, through and right turn lane on Route 17 eastbound and westbound; building a left turn lane with a shared through/right turn lane at the intersection approach on Thornton Rolling Road; and building a right turn lane with a shared through/left turn lane at the intersection approach on Jim Morris Road.
