Fredericksburg Region Traffic Alerts May 1 – 7

VDOT hot spots for the Fredericksburg region May 1 – 7, 2016.

City of Fredericksburg
Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard due to trucks entering and exiting the Fall Hill Avenue widening project site. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on eastbound Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal. Crews are replacing storm water pipes and paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Stafford County
Route 17
Sunday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Crews will continue working in the crossovers on Route 17 northbound and southbound between McLane Drive and International Drive. Motorists should expect lane closures and slight traffic shifts in the work zone. Various crossovers in the work zone may be periodically closed to traffic.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
(Update) Sunday – Saturday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed on eastbound Route 610 at Onville Road. Crews are placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday–Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 3 (Kings Highway) – mowing
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – shoulder work
Route 626 (Morton Road) – shoulder work
Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) – brush cutting
Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road) – patching
Route 611 (Widewater Road) – patching
Route 658 (Brent Point Road) – machine roadway
Route 1254 (Willow Branch) – patching

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 at Harrison Road
(New) On Monday the Route 1 and Harrison Road Intersection Improvement project will be underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment working in the vicinity of Route 1 and Harrison Road. The project is scheduled to be complete by May 2018.

Route 1 at Mudd Tavern Road
(Update) Monday – Friday, Paving will continue on Route 1 northbound and southbound in the vicinity of Mudd Tavern Road from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Mudd Tavern Road near Route 1 from 7 a.m. –
6 p.m. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures in the work zone.

Sheraton Hills
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will continue patching at various locations in Sheraton Hills. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone.

Bridge Cleaning – Various Locations
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect a single lane closure at various bridges located on the following routes. Crews will be performing bridge cleaning:
Route 1
Route 3
Route 17
Various Secondary Routes (routes numbered 600 and above)

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday–Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 3 (Plank Road) – roadway sweeping
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – mowing
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – ditching
Route 608 (Robert E. Lee Drive) – brush cutting
Route 649 (Mill Pond Road) – brush cutting
Route 612 (Catharpin Road) – ditching
Route 602 (Massey Road) – patching
Route 721 (Grand Brooks) – brush cutting
Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Hwy.) – patching
Route 1147 (Green Arbor Drive) – drainage work

Caroline County
Route 1 Northbound
(New) Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will be patching and milling on Route 1 northbound from the Hanover County line to just south of Route 207. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays in the work zone.

Route 17
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Paving work continues on Route 17 southbound just south of Port Royal. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Route 301
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be trenching along the shoulder on Route 301 northbound
between the Hanover County line and the south end of the Mattaponi River Bridge. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday–Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson David Hwy.) – mowing
Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) – brush cutting
Route 301 (A.P. Hill Blvd.) – mowing
Route 207 (Rogers Clark Blvd.) – mowing
Route 649 (Lorne Road) – patching

King George County
Route 607
(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be patching and milling on Route 607 northbound from Route 301 to Route 660 (Canning Way). Motorists should expect lane closures and delays in the work zone.

Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project will be completed in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. The project will be completed in May 2017.

Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. This project will be completed by December 2016.

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Route 606 (Morris Road/Mudd Tavern Road)
Construction is underway to add left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to enhance safety at the intersection of Route 1 and Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County. The project will be completed by June 2016.

Caroline County
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) is closed at the bridge over the Mattaponi River for a bridge rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted recommended detour route. Estimated completion is mid-September 2016.

Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
Route 648 (Sunshine Road) in Caroline County is open to traffic. Final paving will occur in spring 2016.

Westmoreland County
Route 205/Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of Route 205 and Route 631 (Longfield Road) as crews work to improve the existing intersection. The project will realign and widen the intersection and construct a right turn lane on Route 205 for vehicles turning onto Longfield Road. Estimated completion is July 1, 2016.
