Registration for Sunshine Baseball League’s summer season has been extended to June 10, 2016.

The July 5 through August 31 program consists of a weekly baseball academy for children age 6 – 8, and league divisional play for children 9 – 10 and 11 – 13. All skill levels are welcome.

The program is free for children in the 22401 zip code of Fredericksburg, thanks to funding from philanthropist Doris Buffett. Fees for those in other counties range from $24 – $100. Those with financial need may apply for Sunshine Baseball League scholarships.

Players receive Major League Baseball style uniforms they keep, and those who don’t have equipment are issued free gloves and balls.

All games are played at Sunshine Ballpark, 1200 Wicklow Dr. in Fredericksburg. There will be complementary hot dogs, snow cones and drinks for players and their families. There is a playground for younger siblings.
