Rappahannock United Way Helped More than 1,900 With 2015 Taxes
More than 1,900 people had their tax returns filed for free at Rappahannock United Way during the 2016 tax season. Anyone with a household income of $62,000 or less was eligible for the free service at various tax site locations across the Fredericksburg region. Families and individuals collectively saved $385,200 in tax preparation fees and had a total of $1.9 million in refunds, according to Janel Donohue, Rappahannock United Way President. “Rappahannock United Way’s free tax preparation and financial coaching services wouldn’t be possible without the help of local IRS-certified volunteers,” she said. More than 100 different individuals contributed 1,872 volunteer hours to the program during the 2016 tax season. Their services are valued at over $45,096.

Laura Brophy Appointed to Susan Carol Creative Leadership Team
Laura Brophy has been appointed to the leadership team of Fredericksburg based Susan Carol Creative. Brophy’s primary role will be in account management and new business development, and will include website consulting, brand messaging and media relations for the agency’s local, national and international clients. Laura began her public relations career more than 13 years ago with the Miller DeMartine Group, a niche New York-based PR firm. She then joined Marketcom PR, a full-service public relations and marketing communications firm based in New York. Susan Carol Creative is the new name for Susan Carol Associates Public Relations, a full-service agency founded in 1989.

Lawrence G. “Larry” Andrews Promoted at Rappahannock Electric Cooperative
Lawrence G. “Larry” Andrews has been promoted to manager of administrative services/controller for Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. Andrews previously served as director of finance and accounting, and a treasury and financial services specialist.

Robert McDonald and Shawn Kloppman Join Huber Motor Cars
Robert McDonald has been named general manager of Mercedes-Benz of Fredericksburg and Volvo Cars Fredericksburg. He has 35 years of experience in the automotive business, including two years overseeing six dealerships for the Roanoke-based Berglund Automotive Group, and more than 11 years with the Atlanta-based Penske Automotive Group. Shawn Kloppman has joined Huber Motor Cars as general manager of Volkswagen of Fredericksburg and Mazda of Fredericksburg. He’d supervised those dealerships during the transition in ownership from Bill Britt to the Rosner Automotive Group. His 24 years of experience include serving as general manager of Toyota of Stafford.

New Bowley Scholar Named at James Monroe Museum
Jacquelyn Downes is the summer 2016 Bowley Scholar at James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library in downtown Fredericksburg. Downes is a University of Mary Washington senior, majoring in historic preservation. Bowley Scholar recipients work 12 hours per week each semester at the museum. The scholarship is funded through the University of Mary Washington.
