Cannon blasts, the tramp of marching feet, and hoof beats will all be heard at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19, 2016, as the National Park Service (NPS) will host a variety of reenactment groups at the Chancellorsville Battlefield.
Speak with civilians who lived on the battlefield at the Chancellor House site (Stop #3). Hear the jangle of horse tack as cavalry rides through the Fairview site (Stop #10). Feel the concussion of a cannon blast during an artillery demonstration at Hazel Grove (Stop #9). Watch Confederate soldiers march in formation at Jackson’s Flank Attack site (Stop #8).
The events are ongoing from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day, with cannon firing demonstrations at 10, 12, and 2.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center at 9001 Plank Rd. in Spotsylvania to obtain a map and directions to the program locations.
All programs are family friendly, free of charge, and open to the public.
