James Monroe High School’s class of 2016 graduates on Friday, June 17, 2016.

During the 7 p.m. graduation ceremony, Valedictorian Noah Holmes-Foster and Salutatorian Catesby Willis will speak on behalf of their graduating class. Holmes-Foster will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, and Willis will be attending rival University of Virginia.

The graduation ceremony will cap a day of special activities, which begin at 9 a.m. with the first ever Graduation Walk.

Graduating seniors wearing their caps and gowns will tour Hugh Mercer Elementary and Lafayette Upper Elementary, handing out “Future Graduate” stickers and balloons to the younger students.

At 11:30 a.m. the graduates will be treated to a semiformal luncheon in the James Monroe High School commons. There they’ll receive a Graduation Swag Bag, containing JM memorabilia, and graduation cords and tassels.

Graduation rehearsal is at 1 p.m. at the University of Mary Washington William M. Anderson Center, where the evening ceremony will be held. From Route 1, turn onto Alvey Drive. Visitor parking is located in the parking deck adjacent to the Anderson Center.
