Fiske Guide Names UMW a “Best Buy”

Mary Washington is among 47 institutions — 21 public and 26 private — designated as a “best buy,” which means delivering outstanding academics and the most reasonable prices. The listing was based on questionnaires sent to administrators and a cross-section of students, according to Marty Morrison, UMW director of media and public relations.
It is one of only two institutions in Virginia, joining George Mason University.
“Mary Washington could easily be mistaken for one of Virginia’s elite private colleges,” the Fiske Guide said. “It offers just as much history and tradition albeit for a much lower price. Mary Washington has gained a reputation as one of the premium public liberal arts colleges in the country and continues to attract bright students from around the globe.”
The Fiske Guide is compiled annually under the direction of Edward B. Fiske, former education editor of The New York Times.
