Stafford Coast Guard Recruit Died After Fitness Run

Seaman Recruit Aaron N. Redd, United States Coast Guard, died July 6, 2016, the week after he collapsed following a 1.5-mile run at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey.

The 21-year-old Stafford resident graduated from Colonial Forge High School in 2014.

The Coast Guard said Redd had been medically evaluated before his enlistment on June 28, and again after arriving in Cape May. The cause of death has not yet been determined. The Coast Guard said it is conducting a full investigation, which is standard policy in such cases.

Redd is survived by his parents, Franklin and Eileen Redd and his brothers, Evan and Khristiane; his maternal grandmother, Alberta Gavagan (Emah) of Wayne, NJ; his cousins; aunts; uncles; great-aunts; and great-uncles.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, and from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel, 1310 Courthouse Rd., Stafford.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 at the funeral home.
