Chatham Manor Roaring Twenties Garden Party and Concert

by | Jul 22, 2016 | Events

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park is hosting a Roaring Twenties garden party and jazz concert at historic Chatham Manor on Saturday, August 6, 2016, as part of the National Park Service’s centennial celebrations.

Chatham Manor is located at 120 Chatham Lane in Fredericksburg.

“Congress created Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park in 1927, at the height of the Roaring Twenties,” said John Hennessy, the park’s chief historian. “The garden party on August 6 recalls those days.”

The afternoon program begins at 12 p.m. with 1920s era cars and living historians dressed in period clothes. There will be walking tours that explore the founding of the park in 1927, and the revitalization of Chatham in the 1920s, including the creation of its famed gardens.

The Capital Focus Jazz Band will perform from 6 – 8 p.m.

This program is free and open to the public. Bring a lawn chair for the concert, and pack your own picnic dinner and blanket to bridge the afternoon programs with the evening concert. A prize will be awarded for the best picnic basket setup. 1920s-style costumes are encouraged.
