Asa Iem of Edward E. Drew Jr. Middle School in Stafford County received the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Outstanding Achievement Award. Iem was an eighth grade student when he received the award. He is now a rising freshman at Stafford Senior High School (SHS).
Iem was the only Stafford student of the 500 NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award winners nationwide. The award recognizes NJHS members who demonstrate outstanding performance in the five NJHS pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.
Iem was recognized at the annual Edward E. Drew Jr. Middle School NJHS Chapter new member induction with the presentation of a medallion and certificate. He was also recognized by the Stafford County School Board, receiving a $500 college savings fund award.
“Asa’s outstanding academic achievements, his involvement in many school and community activities and programs, his desire to serve, and his honorable and respectful character made him an obvious candidate for this award,” said Jeremy B. Utt, NBCT, NJHS chapter adviser.
“Asa was a pivotal member and student leader in many clubs and our theater department,” said Edward E. Drew Middle School Principal Tammara Hanna. “He will be a great asset to SHS for the next four years.”
The NJHS is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Students at Edward E. Drew Jr. Middle School can be inducted into membership in the spring semester of their seventh or eighth grade year.
