The Rev. Lawrence A. Davies, former mayor of Fredericksburg and former pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), was honored by Leadership Fredericksburg during a luncheon presentation on August 19, 2016.

“Leadership Fredericksburg created a Leadership Impact award specifically to recognize Rev. Davies for his vision, integrity, service and grace,” said Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Susan Spears.

A native of Houston, Davies was elected to Fredericksburg City Council in 1966, shortly after arriving in the city. In 1976, he became the city’s first African American mayor, a post he held for 20 years.

Davies served as pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) from 1962 until he retired on March 4, 2012 — 50 years to the day of his start.

Leadership Fredericksburg is an annual nine month program in which participants learn about the businesses, issues, government, history, resources, and challenges that impact the economic and community dynamics of the Fredericksburg Region.
