by | Aug 28, 2016 | Traffic

From the Virginia Department of Transportation

Overnight lane closures on Interstate 95 northbound at Fredericksburg are planned for Sunday, Aug. 28, and Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, as construction crews continue work to build a new four lane overpass at Fall Hill Avenue.

I-95 travelers are advised to use Route 1 northbound to avoid delays on these evenings. Message boards on I-95 will provide advance notice of lane closures and detour routes.

The Fall Hill Avenue overpass is located at mile marker 131, just south of the Rappahannock River bridges and Safety Rest Area. It is located between I-95 Exit 130/Route 3 at Fredericksburg and Exit 133/Route 17 in Stafford County.

Lanes will be closed on the following schedule, weather permitting:

Sunday, Aug. 28
I-95 northbound
· Single lane closure at 10 p.m.
· Double lane closure at 10:30 p.m.
· All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 29
I-95 northbound
· Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
· Double lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
· All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.

Virginia State Police are assisting with traffic control in the work zone.

Construction is underway on the $44.4 million Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement project. It will widen Fall Hill Avenue in Fredericksburg to four lanes between Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard and the Rappahannock Canal.

In addition, a new four lane overpass is under construction over I-95 northbound and southbound. Traffic began traveling on the first half of the newly constructed overpass in February, while work progresses on the second half of the bridge. Estimated project completion is January 2017.
