Applications are being accepted for the fourth annual Made in FredVA business startup competition. The deadline is September 23, 2016, to submit a business concept online at https://madeinfredva.launchgen.com

Startups or new divisions of existing companies both qualify, and there is no cost to apply. The winner will receive $10,000 toward startup expenses, according to Whitney Watts, Made in FredVA program manager.

Made in FredVA is sponsored by Next Generation of Business Leaders (NextGen), a program of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The NextGen board of directors will select four finalists from the applicants, who will then pitch their business idea to a team of judges at the finale event on October 27 at the Inn at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill in Fredericksburg. A “People’s Choice” cash award will also be awarded.

“Made in FredVA is a great event that encourages innovation and supports creative ideas for business development in the area,” said Bill Blevins, founder and co-owner of Plants Map, the 2014 Made in FredVA winner. “The funds allowed us to invest in equipment that has helped increase our competitiveness. The local enthusiasm and support generated by the event has been helpful in growing our network of contacts and connections.”
