Fredericksburg-Kathmandu Sister City Committee Meets With Ambassador of Nepal

University of Mary Washington President Rick Hurley and Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw joined representatives of the newly formed Fredericksburg-Kathmandu Sister City committee meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, the Ambassador of Nepal to the United States, on March 21, 2016.
During the meeting, Mayor Greenlaw praised the work of the committee in creating the partnership, and she confirmed the city’s continued support for the venture.
The emerging relationship with Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital city, is building on relief efforts undertaken by Fredericksburg residents in response to the April 2015 earthquake that devastated large portions of the mountainous country.
This latest sister city relationship has the potential to broaden arts, culture, business, and educational opportunities for residents of both cities, Greenlaw said.
Kathmandu is Fredericksburg’s fifth sister city, joining Frejus, France, Schwetzingen, Germany, Este, Italy, and Prince’s Town, Ghana.
