From the Virginia Department of Transportation

Work will begin on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, to hard surface Route 721 (Grand Brooks Road) in Spotsylvania County’s Lake Anna area.

Traffic on Grand Brooks Road will be reduced to one lane from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7. Drivers may encounter brief delays and should follow direction from the flagging crew.

The project’s anticipated completion date is Oct. 31. Drivers can expect weekday lane closures on Grand Brooks Road from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout October.

Over the next few weeks, crews will be performing full depth reclamation, which is a process that mills the existing road and reinforces it with concrete. This process can generate dust, which crews will suppress with water.

After the concrete stabilized roadway has set, crews will hard surface the road.

Grand Brooks Road is currently unpaved. The road is being reconstructed as part of the Rural Rustic Road program, which provides a hard surface for low-volume roads.

Grand Brooks Road carries an average of 140 vehicles a day, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) traffic count.
