Free Trees for City Residents from Tree Fredericksburg
Tree Fredericksburg will be giving away 220 three-gallon trees to City of Fredericksburg residents.
Residents may reserve two trees in advance, then pick them up at Powhatan Park from 9 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016.
Powhatan Park is located at 1521 Powhatan St., across Cowan Boulevard from Hugh Mercer Elementary School.
There are 13 varieties available, and residents may reserve their two choices in advance using the request form on the Tree Fredericksburg website.
Tree Fredericksburg’s Tree Steward program volunteers will provide instruction on proper planting and tree care at pick-up.
Tree Fredericksburg can also deliver and plant the trees for a $20 fee.
“This is an opportunity for Fredericksburg homeowners to increase the tree canopy in their own yards, and add to the beauty and value of their property,” said Tree Fredericksburg President Anne Little. “Every tree we plant helps mitigate storm water runoff, reduce the heat island effect, and decrease the amount of carbon pollutants in the atmosphere.”
The free tree giveaway program is made possible through a grant from CSX and the Arbor Day Foundation’s Alliance for Community Trees.
