Jim Gillespie, coordinator of Community Support Services at The Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB), is retiring November 30, 2016, after 32 years with the agency.
RACSB will host a farewell celebration from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Harper A. Gordon Building, 750 Kings Hwy., Stafford. The public is invited to attend.
Gillespie moved to the Fredericksburg area in 1979, to work for Rappahannock Rehabilitation Facility — now Rappahannock Goodwill Industries. He then joined RACSB.
Throughout his career at RACSB, Gillespie championed services for people with behavioral health and developmental disabilities.
“During his tenure, the agency grew from serving hundred people to serving more than 10,000,” said Executive Director Ron Branscome. “He oversaw the creation of the Crisis Stabilization Program, the Program of Assertive Community Treatment, and many other innovative projects. He also helped grow RACSB’s early intervention services, residential services for people with intellectual disability and mental health concerns, and the day support programs for adults with developmental disabilities.”
Rappahannock Area Community Services Board works to improve the quality of life for people residing in Planning District 16, with mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse problems, and to preventing the occurrence of these conditions.
