Pitaiyo mind & body boutique at 1006 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg is closing at the end of November 2016.

Owner Alex Kelly-Maartens said she jumped at the opportunity three years ago to have a boutique, but realizes, “I can touch more people by taking it [Pitaiyo] more places.”

Kelly-Maartens is moving to Warrenton early next year. She’ll be continuing her local classes at a yet to be announced location until her move.

She already has trained instructors teaching Pitaiyo in other locations, including Bowling Green. Bringing Pitaiyo to locations in many communities is her new business plan. Her focus will now be on training instructors in her methodology.

Kelly-Maartens said she created Pitaiyo in 2006. The exercise for which her business is named is a combination of Pilates, tai chi and yoga, with a focus on mind and body integration through positive affirmation. “You are what you think” is the theme.

Alex is quick to point out, however, that it’s not a spiritual practice. She’s seen too many people turned-off to even trying these exercise forms, thinking they are religion.

Kelly-Maartens is having a Pitaiyo business moving sale, which includes 40 percent off merchandize, and also the sale of business items including display cases, jewelry holders, tables, shelving, and gift boxes.

For more information, you can call her at 804-833-8303.
