Veterans Day is an official United States federal holiday observed annually on November 11 to honor people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Observances in the Fredericksburg region for 2016 include the following:

THURSDAY, NOV. 10
Germanna Community College is hosting two Veterans Day events on Thursday, Nov. 10.

11 a.m.
Fredericksburg Area Campus, Dickinson Lobby, 10000 Germanna Point Dr., Fredericksburg, Va. 22408
USMC veterans will celebrate the 241st birthday of the Corps with a cake-cutting ceremony. All Marines are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the entire campus community.

7 p.m.
Fredericksburg Area Campus, Sealy Auditorium, 10000 Germanna Point Dr., Fredericksburg, Va. 22408
Germanna Presents! Lyceum hosts guest speaker Dr. David Clark, archaeologist and professor at The Catholic University of America and Northern Virginia Community College. His presentation will include his work on the recovery and repatriation of service-members from World War II and the Vietnam War. This presentation is free and open to the public.

6:30 p.m.
The King George Ruritan Club will hold their annual Veterans Day Observance at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the University of Mary Washington Dahlgren Campus, 4224 University Drive, King George.

FRIDAY, NOV. 11
9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Central Rappahannock Regional Library salutes our veterans by declaring Veterans Day 2016 a fine-free day for everyone. There will be no late charges for overdue materials returned on Friday, Nov. 11.

9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Museum of Valor Exhibit at Central Rappahannock Regional Library Headquarters Branch, 1201 Caroline St., Fredericksburg. The Spotsylvania-based Museum of Valor mounts a world-class exhibit of items selected from their extensive 15,000+ item inventory. This year’s theme is “1916: The World Loses Its Innocence,” in commemoration of World War I. Free.

10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Quantico National Cemetery Veterans Day Ceremony includes the Quantico Marine Corps Band at 10:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. ceremony with keynote speaker Gen. Robert B. Neller.

10:45 a.m.
The Fredericksburg Area Veterans Council is hosting its annual Veterans Day ceremony beginning at 10:45 a.m. at Fredericksburg’s Memorial to Our Fallen Heroes, located at the junction of George, Barton and Liberty Streets.

2 p.m.
A Veterans Day Celebration Car Show will be held at Greenfield Senior Living, 9300 Onyx Ct. in Fredericksburg. There will be a veteran’s recognition ceremony at 2 p.m. and “Cruisin’ for Heroes” cars on display through 4:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, NOV. 12
8 a.m.
Support a Fallen Veteran Poker Run begins at Old Dominion Harley Davidson. 5224 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Coffee and donuts will be available during registration. First bike out will be at 9 a.m. Ride will end at Cowboy Jacks, 23 Plank Rd. in Fredericksburg. Cost is $15 per rider, $5 for passengers. Proceeds benefit Wreaths Across America to purchase wreaths for the ceremony on Dec. 17 at Oak Hill cemetery.

3 – 6 p.m.
Spotsylvania County will host a Tribute to Veterans from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Merchants Square Pavilion at Spotsylvania Courthouse Village, 9019 Old Battlefield Blvd. There will be speakers, WWII period music and performances, a WWII and Vietnam vehicle displays, music by Enduring Freedom Honor Team, food vendors, and a tribute wall on which visitors can post pictures they bring. There also will be a police escorted motorcycle ride from Indian Motorcycle of Fredericksburg to Spotsylvania Courthouse Village. Contact Indian Motors at 888-821-2440 for more information.
