The Croaker’s Spot will not be opening its planned restaurant in downtown Fredericksburg.
The award-winning, Richmond-based restaurant had leased 1011 Sophia St., and begun renovations. The property, which features patio dining with a view of the Rappahannock River, was formerly Tru Luv’s restaurant.
“It became obvious that the owners could not come up with the last amount of money, and I had to pull the plug on the project,” said local real estate developer Tommy Mitchell, who owns the property. “They’re really wonderful people, and it’s sad that they couldn’t get it together. They were supposed to open nine months ago, and I could not go on any longer not receiving any rent” he said.
The building has been completely renovated, and is 90 percent ready to go, Mitchell said. “We are reaching out to restaurateurs in D.C. and Richmond, and are hopeful we’ll find a good fit,” he said. “A good seafood restaurant would be perfect, as there is a new oyster bar.”
