From the Virginia Department of Transportation

Motorists should anticipate brief overnight travel delays Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, on Interstate 95 southbound at the Rappahannock River Bridge at Fredericksburg.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will make an emergency repair to a joint on the Rappahannock River Bridge. Crews will remove deteriorated concrete and steel from the joint, and will replace it with new steel and concrete.

Two lanes of I-95 southbound will close at 8 p.m. tonight, just south of Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth).

Work will continue until complete. Lanes are anticipated to re-open before the morning peak travel period on Friday morning.

Overhead message boards on I-95 southbound will warn travelers of the work zone and possible delays.

Motorists may consider using Route 1 as an alternate route.
