Wintry Mix Expected Friday into Saturday

A wintry mix is expected Friday night, Dec. 16, 2016, into Saturday morning in the Fredericksburg region, the National Weather Service reports. Gale force winds are possible Saturday into Sunday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports it will apply anti-icing materials to Interstate 95 and primary roads in the Fredericksburg area, beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.

Detailed Forecast
Thursday, Dec. 15: Sunny, with a high near 30. Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 21 miles-per-hour (mph), with gusts as high as 32 mph. Becoming clear Thursday night, with a low near 12. A northwest wind of 6 to 14 mph is expected, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Friday, Dec. 16: Cloudy, with a high near 30. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night: A slight chance of snow before 1 a.m., then snow, freezing rain, and sleet between 1 and 4 a.m., then freezing rain and sleet after 4 a.m. The low is expected to be near 26. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday, Dec. 17: Rain, mainly before 1 p.m., with a high near 55. A southwest wind of 7 to 14 mph is expected, with gusts as high as 21 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 49. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Sunday, Dec. 18: Showers. High near 57. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Sunday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Monday, Dec. 19: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.
