VDOT hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George for January 1 – 7, 2017.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) On Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Thursday, Jan. 5 two lanes will be closed on I-95 northbound at mile marker 131 to allow crews to remove overhangs from the new Fall Hill Avenue bridge over I-95. The overhangs were used during construction of the new bridge. On both nights a single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day.

Route 1 Southbound at Mary Washington Boulevard
(Update) Beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5 a single lane will be closed on Route 1 southbound between Alvey Drive and the canal bridge. Crews are performing storm sewer work and installing new median at various locations in the work zone. All lanes will be open to traffic by 6 a.m. Friday morning.

Fall Hill Avenue
(Update) Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal on the following days and times:

Tuesday, noon – 3 p.m.
Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon.
Mary Washington Boulevard

Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 24 hours, Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median of Mary Washington Boulevard between Route 1 and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Crews will be working to install new curb and paving. Lanes will remain open, but will be narrowed. Work will be underway in this area until the project is complete in January 2017.

Route 1 at Hazel Run
(New) On Tuesday crews will begin work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Ruu. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Crews will mobilize along the shoulder on Route 1 at the bridge. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

Stafford County
Falmouth Bridge
(New) Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3 a single lane will be closed on Route 1 southbound on the Falmouth Bridge. The lane closure will be in place from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. each day through Thursday, Jan. 5 for bridge deck repairs. The bridge is located on Route 1 between the Fredericksburg City limits and the Falmouth Intersection.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday, Noon ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Wednesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 3 (Kings Highway) – shoulder work
Route 611 (Widewater Road) – brush cutting
Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road) – shoulder work
Route 641 (Onville Road) – shoulder work
Route 635 (Decatur Road) – brush cutting
Route 684 (Mine Road) – mowing
Route 642 (Barrett Heights Road) – shoulder work
Route 658 (Brent Point Road) – mowing
Route 631 (Bells Hill Road) – tree trimming
Route 655 (Holly Corner Road) – shoulder work
Route 624 (Morton Road) – shoulder work
Route 752 (Richards Ferry) – ditching

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(Update) Tuesday, Noon ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. Bridge rehabilitation work continues on the I-95 bridge over the Ni River located at mile marker 121, south of Exit 126 (Spotsylvania). The left shoulder on I-95 northbound will be closed in the work zone. All travel lanes will remain open.

Route 3
Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m., Crews will continue working on pedestrian modifications at the intersection of Route 3 and Route 620 (Harrison Road). The right-turn lane at the intersection may be closed intermittently. Motorists should be alert to construction activity as they approach the intersection

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday, Noon ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Wednesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 3 (Plank Road) – shoulder work
Route 17 (Mills Drive) – brush cutting
Route 601 (Lawyers Road) – pipe installation, ditching
Route 719 (Belmont Road) – brush cutting
County Wide – pothole patching

Caroline County
Route 301/Route 17 at Port Royal
(Update) Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Work to upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) and Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) will continue this week. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder at the intersection.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday, Noon ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Wednesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 301 (AP Hill Boulevard) – shoulder work
Route 721 (Sparta Road) – shoulder work
Route 690 (Old CC Road) – machine roadway
Route 622 (Durrett Road) – machine roadway
