VDOT hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George for January 16 – 22, 2017.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes will be closed on I-95 northbound at mile marker 131 (Fall Hill Avenue) to allow crews to install new guardrail and remove temporary construction barriers as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. The temporary barriers were used during construction of the new bridge. On both nights, a single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day.

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed on I-95 southbound at mile marker 131 to allow crews to install new guardrail and remove temporary construction barriers. On both nights, a single lane will be closed at 9:30 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. each day.

Route 1 Southbound at Mary Washington Boulevard
(New) Monday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. A single left lane will be closed on southbound Route 1 between Alvey Drive and the canal bridge. Crews will be installing new median at various locations in the work zone. Motorists may encounter brief delays.

Route 1 Northbound at Mary Washington Boulevard
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Thursday, 6 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. A single left lane will be closed on northbound Route 1 between Alvey Drive and the canal bridge. Crews will be doing preparation work to pave in the work zone and demolishing existing pole foundations. All travel lanes on Friday morning will be open by 4:30 a.m. Expect brief delays approaching the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal for construction activity. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median with crews working to install new curb and paving.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. The left lane on northbound I-95 will be closed at Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford) and just before Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) for construction activities related to extending the 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County.

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. Both shoulders on southbound I-95 near Quantico will be blocked at mile marker 145 as crews inspect the bridge over the Aquia Creek. Delays are possible with the work zone.

Route 1 at Falmouth Bridge
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) northbound and southbound at the Falmouth Bridge for bridge deck repairs. Crews will replace temporary asphalt patches on the bridge deck with concrete to provide a smoother, more durable travel surface and avoid potholes.

Route 610/Onville Road
(New) Saturday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Drivers need to be alert to a traffic shift in both directions of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) just west of Onville Road. Two lanes will remain open for the majority of the time in both directions as crews build a new, concrete median in the center area of Rt. 610. There will be short-term single lane closures and brief stops of traffic, as crews work to remove existing pavement markings and paint new pavement markings. Virginia State Police will be near the work zone to help with traffic control. Expect overnight delays.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5:30 a.m. Traffic will be down to one lane on Route 630 (Courthouse Road) between Lynhaven Lane and Monument Drive as crews install a new drainage pipe underneath the road. Expect brief overnight delays. All travel lanes will be open by 5:30 a.m.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
· Route 218 (White Oak Road) ˗˗ pipe replacement
· Route 624 (Morton Road) ˗˗ low shoulders
· Route 635 (Decatur Road) ˗˗ brush cutting
· Route 642 (Barrett Heights Road) ˗˗ shoulder repairs
· Route 648 (Shelton Road) ˗˗ shoulder repairs
· Route 655 (Holly Corner Road) ˗˗ shoulder repairs
· Route 658 (Brent Point Road) ˗˗ brush cutting
· Route 659 (Doc Stone Road) ˗˗ brush cutting

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. On the I-95 bridge over the Ni River, the left northbound shoulder will be closed as bridge rehabilitation work continues. The bridge over the Ni River is located at mile marker 121, south of Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponnax). Motorists should stay alert for crews working along the shoulder with this project.

Route 1/Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Monday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Traffic will be periodically reduced to a single lane during a mobile work zone as crews remove the current traffic signal poles and install temporary traffic signals at the intersection. Motorists may encounter overnight delays prior to the intersection. Brief traffic stops, up to 15 minutes, may be needed between midnight and 2 a.m. each evening to perform work in the middle of the intersection. Virginia State Police will be at the intersection to help with traffic control and monitor traffic conditions.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
· Route 2 (Tidewater Trail) ˗˗ shoulder repair
· Route 208 (Lake Anna Parkway) ˗˗ brush cutting
· Route 601 (Lawyers Road) ˗˗ brush cutting
· Route 606 (Post Oak Road) ˗˗ brush cutting
· Route 612 (Catharpin Road) ˗˗ patching
· Route 618 (River Road) ˗˗ shoulder repair
· Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) ˗˗ patching
· Route 674 (Chancellor Road) ˗˗ shoulder repair
· Route 680 (Granite Springs Road) ˗˗ patching

Caroline County
Bridge Inspection
(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, and Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. Crews will be inspecting various bridges at the following locations this week. Motorists should expect single lane closures, shoulder closures and possible brief delays during these hours for the work zones.
· Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 104 (Route 207/Rogers Clark Blvd) – Monday
· Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 104 – Tuesday
· Route 301 at Tidewater Trail and Port Conway Road – Thursday

Route 301/Route 17 at Port Royal
Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Work to upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) and Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) will continue this week. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder at the intersection. There will be no lane closures or impact to the travel lanes.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
· County-wide ˗˗ patching potholes
· Route 684 (Colemans Mill Road) ˗˗ shoulder repairs

King George County
Route 218/Route 206 Intersection
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2:30 p.m. Work will continue this week to install a new traffic signal at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder at the intersection. No lane closures are anticipated with this work.
